Cake International continues success at new venue

Cake International – The Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating & Baking Show saw more than 18,000 people flock to EventCity, Manchester over the weekend. The show featured the Queen of Puddings Mary Berry, famed cake decorator Mich Turner, Sunday Brunch star Simon Rimmer and the Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite, who each showcased their talents in The Bakery Theatre and in a Q + A session.

Features included over 80 exhibitors offering cutting-edge cake decorating and baking supplies; a chance for visitors to have a go at baking live at the show in the brand new Baker’s Dozen Theatre; and over 250 stunning competition entries created by both amateur and professional cake decorators, with the Best in Show going to Vicki Smith for her stunning creation ‘Bella the Turtle’. Cake International runs in three different venues across the UK and is attended annually by more than 70,000 people and is celebrating its 18^th birthday this year.

Mary Berry said: “It was fantastic to be a part of Cake International in Manchester. There were so many fans of cake decorating and baking, showing just how much of a revival baking has had over the last few years. I’m really looking forward to doing it all again at the ExCeL, London in April.”

Exhibitors, Purple Cupcakes, from Barnoldswick, Lancashire said: “We had an amazing show which exceeded our expectations. Our products sold fantastically well and we met some really inspiring bakers and cake decorators. It was a great first show at Manchester and we are looking forward to returning next year.”

Show organiser Simon Burns said: “We have had great success with the show in Birmingham and London and we were really excited to be able to bring Cake International to the North for the first time. Cake International is the biggest show of its kind in the world and we see fans come from across the globe to attend the show. In 2013 Cake International – The Sugarcraft, Cake Decorating & Baking Show will be taking place at ExCeL, London from 12-14 April and Birmingham, NEC from the 8-10 November.

AEO announces partnership with BPA Worldwide to bring cost effective event auditing to UK exhibition industry

In a move that is intended to make independently audited attendance data much more accessible, the Association of Exhibition Organisers Ltd (AEO) has partnered with BPA Worldwide, the only global auditor of media, to make a £500 event audit immediately available to AEO members in the UK.

The new cost effective audit will provide event organisers with audited attendance and exhibitor data for their shows, with the option to add demographic and other data for additional incremental costs.

“The UK exhibitions sector is big business and it is essential that it not only adheres to and embraces best practice but that we make it as easy and as accessible as possible for our members to do so,” explains Karim Halwagi, AEO Chief Executive. “We are confident our new partnership with BPA will achieve this.”

The UK exhibition industry generates around £11BN in spending and contributes over £5BN in value to the UK economy each year. This activity supports 148,500 jobs in the UK, attracts over 13MN visitors a year to more than 1,500 events. Over 265,000 exhibitors participate in events, with 20% coming from outside of the UK. Exhibitors spend almost £3BN on goods and services to demonstrate at events while visitors spend over £1.4BN on accommodation, travel and other purchases.*

“We are delighted to be working with AEO on embedding independent audits within the exhibition industry,” adds Francis Stones, BPA’s Director of European Operations. “BPA has global experience and expertise in media auditing and we have already had a number of event organisers commit to take up the new audit offer. We will be working hard with the AEO to make auditing custom and practice for AEO members.”

BPA event audits provide event organisers with audited attendance and sometimes demographic data, which can be used to help potential exhibitors to justify their decision to invest in a show. In this sense a BPA event audit report of a show’s verified attendance can be a powerful commercial tool for an organisers’ marketing team.
