International Modern Hospital Show 2023: Advancements in the Medical Industry at Tokyo Big Sight

From July 12 to 15, International Modern Hospital Show 2023 was held at the Tokyo Big Sight. The trade fair consisted of 6 main exhibit areas:

  • Nursing
  • Medical Equipment
  • Medical Examinations / Health Promotion
  • Caregiving / Welfare / Rehabilitation
  • Medical Facilities / Operational Support
  • Medical Information Systems

The last of which had the most prominent number of exhibiting companies.

In addition, there was a special Health Tech section, as well as a collaboration with the popular medical-themed comic series, Black Jack, that featured displays of iconic scenes and photo spots with cutouts of popular characters.

Blue Planet-works, Inc. promoted their cyber security service, AppGuard, for implementation in hospitals and other medical facilities. AppGuard utilizes “isolation technology” which helps provide more reliable endpoint and server security.

TAK (Technology and Knowledge) Co., Ltd. offers consulting and problem-solving services for healthcare, business, and networks. At their booth, the company showcased their online total aid system for the rehabilitation industry. This system combines appointment scheduling, contacting patients, aggregate data, and information sharing all in one easily-accessible place. TAK promises that its service will make hospital management more efficient and increase lanes of communication between staff and patients.

FPT Software Japan Co., Ltd. is a Vietnam-headquartered IT company that has offices throughout Japan in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Okinawa. The company mainly works with software and digital consulting, and at the exhibition they were promoting their software solutions for the healthcare industry. Popular aspects were office automation and smart hospital management.

Remedy & Company Corporation showcased their proprietary Metaverse platform and its applications for rehabilitation. The company is currently conducting counseling using Metaverse VR technology for digitalization of staff-patient interactions, physical therapy, and even animal-assisted therapy. The R&C global team aims to spread awareness to hospitals and clinics about the benefits of VR clinical trials.

International Modern Hospital Show is organized by the Japan Hospital Association (JHA). I had the opportunity to speak with Shun Watanabe of the JHA Education department regarding the Association’s operations, which include acting as a mediator between hospitals and the Ministry of Labor, the Japanese Medical Association, and the national government. In addition, the JHA promotes the spread of information to help advancement in the medical industry, as well as holds trade fairs, seminars, and academic conferences throughout the year.

The next International Modern Hospital Show will be held from July 10 to 12, 2024, at the Tokyo Big Sight.
