Tokyo Olympics 1964 Design Project
On February 13th, “Tokyo Olympics 1964 Design Project” opened in Tokyo Modern Art Gallery.
The Tokyo Olympics were not only a sports event, it also was a large-scale design project showcasing the skills of post-war designers.
Young designers from those times, Tanaka Ikkou among others, worked together on producing pictograms, the program and venue guide maps, guiding the visitors to Olympic facilities.
The exhibition is planned to be announced in the spring special number of Trade Fair News “Looking Forward to Invitation to Olympics”.

Leading the global trend / International Retail Trade Fair in South Korea
Retail industry is now an emerging market in South Korea which is the next largest market after manufacturing industry that account for 7.5 percent of GDP.
Thus the first “K Shop Fair 2013” will be held in South Korea.
There are 900,000 retail stores which the total store floor area is up to 125 million square meters in South Korea.

UFI set up South-American Chapter, and partnered with AFIDA
The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, UFI, announced on February 6th its creation of a South-American office as a new chapter after opening its chapters in Europe, the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. The chapter is founded with the aim of improving the South American’s influence on both the global economy and the International exhibition industry.
Mr. Xianjin Chen, UFI President, signed a memorandum of understanding with Mr. Andrés López Valderrama, the president of the Asociación Internacional de Ferias de America (AFIDA).
The two organizations agreed to work together for the continuous expansion and growth of the exhibition industry in the South American region and for a further effort to promote and support its members of the organizations.

ONE PIECE, Hello Kitty wins Japan Merchandising Rights Association award
Four prize-winning works are nominated from 141 properties and about 500 literary works in total and were short-listed after the first and the second round.
Akihiro Kamei, a professor emeritus at Waseda University and the chairman of the awards committee said, “this award was started as a memorial event, but I hope it will continue.”

On Feburuary 26th, MPI JAPAN held “MPI Japan Seminar in Feburuary” at Roppongi Academy Hills. CEO Kiyohisa Tokunaga, also a general manager of Prince Hotel in Takanawa/Shinagawa, appeared on the stage to talked about the theme “Prince Tokyo MICE City -Why Prince Hotel has came out with MICE as its principal strategy?-” and its approach.

Five events associations held the New Year’s Celebration
On January 31st,Japan Event Produce Congress Association,Japan Association for the Promotion of Creative Events,Event Academy, Japan Event Network Association, Japan Event Director’s Society held the New Year’s Celebration at the party location in Kagurazaka, Tokyo.
It’s the first trial of its kind to held the joint party of these associations.
Mr.Narita, chairman of JACE and administrative director of Event Academy addressed with enthusiasm, “We would like to increase vitality of Japan by showing the upward momentum of these five associations throughout Japan”.
Okinawa tourism & MICE sontents fair was filled with excitement
On January 29, Ube, a reporter of “Exhibition and MICE” visited the Grand Prince Hotel – New Takanawa in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
He was there because Okinawa Kick-Off Project 2013, “Okinawa Tourism & MICE Contents Fair in Tokyo ~ All OKinawa Great Exhibition” took place there.
This event was planned to have booths from the prefecture’s tourist resources and facilities or MICE suppliers. It was to suggest their new travel information and MICE menu. This event was held about the same time every year in the last few years.
The fair was composed of 3 areas; “Local Tourism Area,” “Special Tourism Area,” “MICE area.”
There were full of information on the Shin-Ishigaki airport which is scheduled to open in March, new sightseeing proposals for school trips, MICE venues proposals that utilize nature in the surrounding remote islands, MICE programs integrated with Okinawa’s local culture or food, and urban or resort hotels in Okinawa.
Ms. Yoriko Teruya, a staff at the bureau’s domestic promotion section, commented, “We hope visitors can feel the evolution of Okinawa.”
